Product Design

For example the product below. A sofa build on the idea of a marshmallow. I tried to use the form of the candy, desconstruct it and re-use the radius and angle to creat a complete new product.

Challenge

As a Designer to understand the product which is stuck in the head of the customer.
We want to create things you got on your mind with our creativity.

Process

  1. I try to re-use things we see in nature, urban life or things we remember as a child.

  2. Deconstruct familiar or similar products.

  3. Try to create! It's never a failure - it's called learning!

  4. Ask question! Try to understand your client and fill his idea or wish with spark.

  5. Mockups! Mockups! Mockups!

  6. Find a solution, find an end and don't fall for details no one else recognize.

  7. Mockups! Mockups! Mockups! pt2.

  8. Present your final work ( productname_xx_final_final24_Finalx *cough* *cough*)

Solution

I aim to get as close as possible to the final product through sketches—whether hand-drawn or in 3D. Using small-scale models or full-scale detail studies (1:1), I strive to refine and better understand the form. I'm a strong believer in the principle of "form follows function." Depending on the existing specifications for color or material, I work toward creating a complete product mockup or 3D rendering, developing a CAD file, and—if it's intended for production—collaborating with the team to implement improvements or special requirements.

Takeaway

An incredibly exciting field in which I had the opportunity to design over 40 products in countless color and material variations during my time at Westwing Group. This experience allowed me to dive deep into the entire product development cycle—from concept to refinement—while exploring the impact that subtle changes in texture, tone, and finish can have on the final design. It was a creative and strategic challenge that continuously sharpened my eye for detail and elevated my understanding of aesthetic versatility.
